POLICE and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, visited the cascading poppy display at St Mary's Church in Wistaston which was created by Scouts, Cubs and Beavers.

The "Ribbon of Poppies" cascades down St Mary's Church and rests between two silhouetted soldiers. It took over 450 hours across 10 months to construct, and is made from over 5,000 plastic bottle ends, painted red to resemble poppies and attached onto wire mesh.

John Dwyer, Police and Crime Commissioner said: "This display is a testament to the hard work of all of those involved and a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedom..

"I am extremely proud of all of the children who got stuck in and created the thousands of poppies that so many in the community have enjoyed seeing. It's fantastic to see projects like this that allow children to channel their energy into positive outlets."

A parent of one of the Scouts, commented: "It was great for the children to have a focus. One day, my son contacted me to ask if he could stay another hour to finish some more poppies before he came home. I went down and got involved and helped him. It was a lovely project to be a part of."

John Dwyer added: "Sometimes our first thought of young people is them out on the streets causing a nuisance and in some cases anti-social behaviour. But it goes to show that with organisations like the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers and the right support in place, this is simply not the case."
