Plans to convert old Crewe farm building into new apartments
By Ryan Parker 15th Feb 2026
Plans have been put forward to convert an old Crewe town centre farm building into new self-contained apartments, with local residents notified.
Applicant, Mrs R Smith, of Personal Flowers, Market Street, has submitted plans on behalf of Newton Farm, behind 43 Market Street, dating back to the Victorian period.
Personal Flowers by Pat Walker has operated on Market Street since 1990, with the former farm building previously used as the shop's additional storage space.
With the old stable surplus to requirements, the business wants to convert it into two self-contained dwellings, with one a two-bedroom and the other a one-bedroom, split over both floors.
New windows and doors are proposed to replace the existing timber stable doors, with external features set to remain the same.

A design and access statement reads: "The property appears to date from the Victorian period and was used as a stable with accessible loft space above.
"It is currently used as additional storage for the applicant's flower show fronting Market Street and is no longer required for this use.
"Currently, the property is divided into three spaces. Access is via two large stable doors and one via a single personal door with an access stair to the upper loft room.
"The scale of the development will remain the same as the proposal to convert the existing space into a habitable area for the self-contained apartments, split over both floors.
"No external landscaping is proposed for this scheme. The external apertures and structure in the main will remain the same as the existing.
"There will be the introduction of new windows and doors to replace the existing timber stable doors. No additional openings will be made to the property to maintain its existing character.
"The proposed conversion and redevelopment of the existing outbuilding will ensure it will not fall into further disrepair. It will offer affordable accommodation within the town centre.
"Given the properties location in Crewe, it offers fantastic public transport links with both bus and train services within walking distance. It also offers access to local amenities and shops."
The last date for submitting comments is Friday 20 February, with a target decision date of Wednesday 25 March.
