Plans submitted for new Crewe Police 'Deployment Base' on edge of town

Plans have been put forward for the new Crewe Police 'Deployment Base' on the edge of town, aiming to reach the local road network quicker.
This spring, Cheshire Constabulary submitted proposals for a new two-storey office building and base with a green wall design, including associated storage facilities, car parking and landscaping, on land to the west of David Whitby Way.
The new deployment base will have parking split into staff parking, operational parking and visitor parking. It is proposed there will be EV and motorbike spaces, along with five disabled bays and space for 12 bicycles under a shelter.

Cheshire Police has confirmed its current Crewe Police Station, Civic Centre, is no longer fit for purpose, with the new deployment base enabling officers to operate "more efficiently."
The constabulary's Crewe site will close, but will retain its customer service desk at a new, smaller central location.
Police say a decision on a new location will be agreed with Cheshire East in the near future as the council continues to transform the town centre area into a new 'civic and cultural quarter.'
A design and access statement reads: "Cheshire Constabulary is investing in policing for the 21st century and has announced plans for a new facility in Crewe.
"This proposal seeks to address the needs of the Crewe Local Police Unit (LPU) which also covers Nantwich and South Cheshire.

"Crewe Police Station is no longer considered suitable for modern policing needs and a brief was set to identify a location for a new Crewe Deployment Base.
"A separate deployment base, away from the town centre, will allow officers to reach the local road network quicker and operate more efficiently and effectively for the whole of the South Cheshire LPU area.
"The new Crewe Deployment Base will be co-located with a number of service and operational units, such as intelligence units, public protection and custody investigation teams.
"There will be no general public access to the Deployment Base; access will only be by invitation.
"A customer service desk will be retained in Crewe town centre at a new location.

"This will retain the ability for the public to speak to an officer directly and report matters to the police just as they can now.
"It will be combined with a local support centre for beat officers in Crewe town centre.
"A decision on a new location will be agreed with Cheshire East Council as part of its wider regeneration plans for the Civic Centre."
The last date for submitting comments on the application is Wednesday 4 June with a target decision date of Friday 4 July.
