Plans have been put forward for a new 660-home mixed-use development across Wistaston fields, comprising a neighbourhood centre, 60-bed care home, public open space and a new three-arm roundabout.

Applicant, Mr Rob Haslam, of Harworth Group PLC, has submitted outline planning permission for a residential-led extension of Crewe on land off Wistaston Green Road, including up to 198 affordable homes.

The site is bound by Wistaston Green Road to the north/northeast, a woodland belt and Wistaston Green Brook to the east/southeast, Wistaston Brook Estate and Wistaston Cricket Club to the southeast and agricultural land south and west.

Harworth Group PLC wants to enhance and amend existing footpaths across the Wistaston fields, constructing new walkways and cycleways, as well as a children's play area (CEC Planning).

Vehicular access is proposed from the new roundabout on Wistaston Green Road, located on the north eastern border of the site.

The property developer also proposes to demolish existing buildings on the fields to make way for the mixed-use development.

A planning statement reads: "It is anticipated that the site could accommodate up to 660 dwellings, including 30 per cent affordable housing.

The new three-arm roundabout is proposed off Wistaston Green Road, located at the north eastern border of the site (Google).

"The proposed development will also include a neighbourhood centre (750 square metres), mobility hub and a care home (up to 3,200 square metres).

"Significant areas of public open space are also proposed, with large parts of the site kept free from development and new active travel routes provided through the site.

"This includes the maintenance of the existing Public Right of Way. The public open space will be provided, maintained and managed in perpetuity at no expense to the public.

"A new three-arm roundabout will be provided on Wistaston Green Road, which will provide access to the site. An emergency access on Wistaston Green Road will also be provided."

The property developer believes this 'Crewe West' development will make a notable contribution to the "current shortage of market and affordable housing in Cheshire East."

The last date for submitting comments on the application is Wednesday 20 August, with a target decision date of Thursday 30 October.
