Peter Mandelson 'should never have been appointed' says Crewe MP
By Ryan Parker 6th Feb 2026
Crewe MP, Connor Naismith, says he is "sickened and appalled" by the latest revelations about Peter Mandelson and Jeffrey Epstein, in an exclusive with Nub News.
Mandelson resigned his membership of the Labour Party following further links to late convicted paedophile, with documents suggesting Epstein made £55,000 ($75,000) in payments to him in three separate transactions between 2003 and 2004.
On February 5, Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, apologised to the victims of Epstein for believing Mandelson's "lies "and appointing him as the UK's ambassador to the US, which he was sacked from in September 2025.
Responding to the latest developments, Mr Naismith told Nub News: "When I was elected as the Member of Parliament for Crewe and Nantwich I said I would put country first and party second. That means refusing to be silent when your own side gets something wrong.
"I am appalled and sickened by the revelations about Peter Mandelson.

"It is clear he should never have been appointed [by Starmer], regardless of what he claimed to be true at the time. People are right to question how and why that decision was made.
"Sunlight is often the best disinfectant. We all have a right to know about the events that led to his appointment, who knew what and when so we can learn the lessons, have accountability, and crucially to restore some semblance of trust in our institutions.
"That's why I am pleased to have worked with my colleagues to agree a cross party consensus that all the relevant documents should be disclosed, subject to matters of national security and international relations.
"Crucially, it's important that independence sits at the heart of decisions over what to disclose.
"For that reason, I am glad we have reached agreement the Intelligence and Security Committee (independent of government), should have sight of and have the power to publish any documents which the government reaches a view have implications for national security and international relations.
"Furthermore, our focus should always remain on the victims of Jeffrey Epstein's heinous crimes, and in ensuring those complicit in his crimes are brought to justice."
