Last year's TrAction festival was cancelled and will take place under a different format this year.

A PERFORMING arts company is looking to hire two artists to provide a creative streak for a two-day festival in Crewe next month.

The artists will be asked to design nature and heritage themed art packs for family-friendly activities during the SpareParts Festival, which is being held over the weekend of Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22.

The event is a replacement for TrAction which has attracted large crowds to Crewe town centre in previous years to watch shows and installations based around the themes of transport, science and technology.

TrAction was cancelled last year due to the pandemic and this year Crewe Town Council has opted for a scaled-down event to avoid large numbers congregating while Covid cases remain high.

SpareParts has been told to drop parade and walkabout acts and focus instead on sparking people's imagination with displays and outdoor activities around town, including Christ Church.

Now SpareParts and Minerva Arts are looking for two freelance artists to design a creative writing pack and a visual arts pack.

The company said: "We are looking for five to seven pages of design/prompts/creative tasks that can be printed onto recycled paper and included with a couple of other resources that encourage people to respond creatively to the environment.

"The activities should be inspired by the nature and heritage of Christ Church Gardens, where the participants will be carrying out the activities. They should encourage participants to notice, reflect and appreciate their surroundings through a range of family-friendly creative activities."

Minerva Arts will source all materials and resources needed for the activities.

The artists will be paid £35 an hour and anyone interested should send a CV to [email protected] by August 4.
