By Ryan Parker 17th Apr 2026
Rail passengers have been advised 'not to travel'
Disruption affecting services in and out of Crewe has continued for a second day.
It follows damage to the overhead electric wires at Manchester Piccadilly.
The National Rail website says: "As a result of this, some lines have been closed and a number of platforms at the station are out of use.
"Trains may be cancelled, revised or severely delayed by up to 60 minutes.
"Major disruption is expected until the end of the day."
Below, you will find details about how this disruption affects CrossCountry, Avanti West Coast and Northern services.
Avanti West Coast
Avanti West Coast trains will not call at Manchester Piccadilly.
Tickets for travel on the Manchester Piccadilly route dated for Thursday 16 and Friday 17 will be valid for travel today (Friday 17) and tomorrow (Saturday 18) at no extra cost.
You can use your ticket (in both directions) at no extra cost on the following:
- Bee Network buses between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport in both directions on routes 192 and 203
- CrossCountry services between Stockport and Birmingham New Street
- London Northwestern Railway services between Stafford and London Euston
If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.
If you no longer wish to travel because your train's delayed or cancelled, you can request a full refund from where you bought your ticket.

Passengers affected by the disruption travelling to / from stations north of Macclesfield, may use tickets dated for Thursday 16 April on services today, Friday 17 April.
If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.
