Nub News Interview: Crewe Alex captain says promotion 'the main aim'
Crewe Alexandra FC's captain says promotion is "the main aim" for his side this season, after meeting supporters at a town centre venue.
Luke Offord visited the Crewe Alexandra RSS pop up shop, within Crewe Market Hall, on Thursday 23 November.
The 24-year-old defender gave away 50 signed photos to supporters, as well as posing for pictures.
Offord told Nub News: "It has been great to meet the supporters. As captain, this is the kind of thing I need to do for them.
"A lot of people came down to meet me, take photos and get their signed pictures. I am glad I made them happy.
"I think it's good for all the players to come down and meet the fans, it really brings the community together."
Offord graduated from Crewe's academy in summer 2018, becoming a first-team regular during the 2020-21 season in League One.
At the beginning of the 2022-23 season, the 24-year-old was appointed club captain and hasn't looked back.
So far, Offord has scored two goals for Crewe, most recently netting in an EFL Cup round one victory away to Sunderland.
Crewe are mounting a promotion challenge, currently sitting fifth in League Two.
Offord said: "The season is going really well at the minute, being in the top five of the table.
"The highlight of the season for me personally, was scoring against Sunderland, but winning games as a team has been a highlight overall.
"The manager [Lee Bell], has been really good at installing a good mentality, making us hard to beat.
"We have been playing well, creating chances and scoring goals. It has been really enjoyable.
"We haven't really spoken about it, but I think we can only look for promotion this season.
"That is the main aim, no matter what way it comes. We will take it game by game and see how we go."
Offord has enjoyed playing alongside summer signing, Mickey Demetriou, who has already scored six goals and registered four assists this campaign.
Offord added: "Mickey is a good lad, he's a great leader and scored a lot of goals.
"Playing next to him and Connor [O'Riordan] provides a good balance in the team.
"There is a good mixture of experience and we work well together.
"As captain, I like to make sure my standards are high and train well everyday.
"It is important as a team, we continue to put in consistent performances on the pitch, continue to work hard and see where it takes us."
Crewe host Doncaster Rovers at Mornflake Stadium on Saturday 25 November at 3pm.
