A CREWE man has been banned from a Nantwich night spot after attacking his ex's new boyfriend.
The 23-year-old was ordered to pay £1,500 compensation to his victim, who required plastic surgery to mend his badly cut lip.
The man pleaded guilty to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent when he appeared before South Cheshire Magistrates' Court.
His victim told police that after he was attacked at Nakatcha on November 9 last year year his assailant walked off "with a smirk on his face".
Prosecutor Lionel Cope said the victim had been out for drinks with his partner, who spotted her ex whom she had split up with a few weeks previously.
She did not want to speak to him, but when the couple went to a downstairs bar area a friend of the defendant's asked the victim "Are you with my mate's bird?"
The prosecutor said when the victim came out of the toilet into the main bar he was punched from behind without warning.
He was hit in the mouth and ribs and when he turned around he saw the defendant who threw another punch at him. While he said he tried to push his attacker away he was too dazed from being hit.
The victim said in a statement he had to go to Leighton (Hospital) the next day where he was told he required plastic surgery as a cut on his lip had gone through into his mouth.
In a victim personal statement read out to the court he said he underwent surgery at a Merseyside hospital and was unable to open his mouth for a week.
The court heard the defendant could not "be more sorry" for what he did.
His solicitor, Julian Farley, said: "He doesn't seek to blame his ex-girlfriend or the victim. He accepts he threw punches. He says the other man threw a similar number at him which did not land.
"He is an extremely capable young man who in a moment of madness has committed a nasty, serious offence."
District Judge Nick Sanders imposed a 22-week curfew on the defendant, during which time he will be electronically tagged at home between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
The judge told him to pay compensation to his victim and a victim surcharge of £90 and court costs of £85.
