New Crewe playground equipment torched in arson attack

New Crewe playground equipment has been torched in an arson attack, with Cheshire Police calling for any witnesses to come forward.
On Thursday 20 March, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to an incident at Derby Docks Play Area, Derby Street.
Around 8.51pm, one fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene, discovering a climbing frame well-alight.

Crewe firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames, notifying Cheshire Police it was believed to have been done deliberately.
Derby Docks Play Area reopened following a major refurbishment in April 2024, as part of a 'pocket parks' project across the town.
This park benefitted from a new play area and a multi-use games facility, with the overall area tidied up and modernised.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A children's climbing frame, situated in a playground, was involved in a fire.
"The crew used a hose reel to extinguish it and believe it was started deliberately.

"They ask anyone who knows who may have started it to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or contact Cheshire Police."
In total, eight pocket parks in Crewe are being redeveloped. Crewe Town Council will inspect the damage to Derby Docks Play Area today (March 21).
