A new Crewe-based charity has put out a reminder to anyone interested in attending its inaugural event - focusing on the safety and wellbeing of women.
The Alpha Omega Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Foundation will welcome civic dignitaries, police and security specialists to the meeting at the Apollo Buckingham Health Sciences Campus, Crewe on Saturday (April 30).
Anyone interested in discussing the subject of women living well and away from fear and anxiety is invited to attend.
It is being called a Town Hall Meeting and aims to look at topics which will make life more harmonious, safe and secure for women from all backgrounds, age and ethnicity.
Foundation founder Amaka Lawton, former military personnel, who hails from Nigeria, said: "While in the military, I found that conflict and insecurity affects women differently, from food poverty to worry over personal safety and safety for their children.
"This leads to all types of oppression and exploitation of mothers and young girls and boys.
"Here the abuse is more hidden but exists in all demographics and the Foundation wants to put this topic on the table for discussion.
"We can't change things over night, but we hope to generate the conversation, beginning locally and then nationally, while creating a support network for women."
Amaka, who is also a mum, lives in South Cheshire with her husband Ken, owner of Alpha Omega Securities Ltd, based on Crewe Business Park.
The Foundation was born out of the company's charitable works and now stands alone as a cause with a mission to develop a society where everyone has the 'Right to Be Safe.'
It is inspired by the United Nations Security Council Resolution on women, peace and security (WPS) and aims to involve, educate and assist women in promoting peace and security within their communities.
Amaka added: "This is Britain 2022 and women should not have to 'look over their shoulder' or be full of trepidation when they put their key in the door.
"Ultimately the Foundation wants women of all ages to feel empowered and safe in whatever circumstances they may be in."
The 'Town Hall Meeting' will take place in the Apollo's Delaney Building from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
Anyone interested in exploring ways local women and children can feel safe and secure in any situation is invited to attend.
