Crewe and Nantwich MP thanks local charities for sterling work during pandemic
MP KIERAN Mullan is recruiting a doorstep army to pay a visit to isolated members of the community on Christmas Day.
The MP used his final speech of the year in the Commons last Thursday to pay tribute to the work of a raft of volunteers, charities and community groups who have been hard at work in Crewe during the pandemic.
He has already signed up volunteers for doorstep visits and is looking for more people to help out if they know someone who could do with some festive cheer.
"This Christmas will be difficult for many residents, but it is wonderful to see members of community come together to offer their support. If there is anyone in your neighbourhood that you think is socially isolated and will be alone on Christmas Day do let me know and we will arrange for them to have a doorstep visit," said Kieran.
Organisations like The Wishing Well Project, St Paul's Centre, Hopes and Beams, The Salvation Army, Crewe Corps and YMCA Crewe have "gone above and beyond", says the MP, to provide support for the vulnerable.
He told fellow MPs: "Reflecting on my first 12 months as an MP, what has really stood out for me has been the incredible strength of community in Crewe and Nantwich.
"I have taken the opportunity to thank all of our volunteers, charities and community groups."
There were also a number of community volunteer groups like Haslington Volunteer Group and community groups for Wistaston, Shavington and Willaston that sprung into action led by local community leaders.
"More than 400 local residents responded to my request for volunteers and we were able to send them to help charities and individuals asked to stay in their homes across the whole constituency."
Anyone who would like to help out Kieran with a doorstep visit should email him on [email protected]
