THE work of trainees at major Crewe employers were in the spotlight when they were on the end of a virtual call from their MP during National Apprenticeship Week.

Kieran Mullan spoke to apprentices at Bentley Motors and Alstom (formerly Bombardier) about their experiences.

National Apprenticeship Week, which was held between February 8 and 14, shone a light on the good work being done by employers and apprentices across the country

Both Crewe firms take on a number of apprentices annually.

The MP said "Apprenticeships provide young people with amazing opportunities to develop skills in an ever-widening range of areas and advance their career."

"It was a pleasure to meet with the apprentices at Alstom and Bentley Motors and it was great to hear about the benefits of apprentices from those who are currently in placements.

"I would encourage everyone to think about doing an apprenticeship or to make sure it's an option their children think about. You can earn as you learn and even if you have been working for decades as an adult, they can help you develop new skills."

Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills, Gillian Keegan MP, said: "It was fantastic to see how employers of all sizes have gone above and beyond to ensure apprentices can continue their studies during this unprecedented time."
