Crewe manager to give youngsters 'another chance' to impress against West Brom
Crewe Alexandra's manager has said he will give some of his youngsters 'another chance' this weekend - as his side prepare to take on a Championship side.
The Railwaymen host West Bromwich Albion in their first pre-season home fixture this Saturday (July 16).
Alex Morris will be going head-to-head against former Newcastle United manager, Steve Bruce.
The Alex manager gave a number of youngsters the chance to impress away to Halesowen Town on Tuesday (July 12) - a game which they won 3-2.
Goals from trialist, Chris Sang, 17-year-old Slovakian midfielder, Matus Holicek and 18-year-old midfielder Joel Tabiner gave Crewe the narrow victory.
Morris believes he has got plenty out of pre-season up so far. He has been featuring youngsters throughout pre-season so far to see how they cope.
Today (July 15), Morris told Crewe Alexandra's website: "Some of them may get another chance against West Bromwich Albion and that will another challenge to face players of that calibre.
"It will be interesting to see how they handle that and playing at the Stadium in front of a crowd again."
Crewe were provided with a much-needed boost yesterday (July 14), when the club confirmed midfield signings Conor Thomas and Charlie Colkett were back in training.
Both players have not featured in pre-season matches so far after picking up calf muscle injuries.
Kelvin Mellor, who returned to the club this summer, managed 75 minutes in the latest friendly.
Morris added: "At Halesowen it was a good challenge again for some of our younger players because they were up against a men's team.
"There was also a partisan crowd there and that is a challenge they don't get coming from Academy football.
"Whilst it was really disappointing in many aspects with the ball, what they did show us was some fortitude to go on and win the game late on.
"That is not a bad habit to pick up regardless of who you play."
Crewe will kick-off their first home pre-season friendly against West Brom tomorrow at 3pm.
Ticket prices are £12 for adults, £8 for seniors (65+) and £2 for under-16s.
