Mini Steam Gala celebrates 200 years of railway history in Crewe this weekend

Crewe Heritage Centre is inviting families, railway enthusiasts and the local community to a special Mini Steam Gala in celebration of Railway 200, marking two centuries of railway history in the UK.
Taking place on Saturday 6 September and Sunday 7 September, from 10am to 4.30pm, this exciting event promises a full day of steam-powered fun train rides and themed crafts.
In partnership with Foxfield Miniature Railway, Crewe Heritage Centre will host three miniature steam trains, including two passenger services and a goods train, offering visitors a rare chance to experience the charm of steam railways in miniature form.

While Crewe Heritage Centre's beloved resident steam locomotive, 'Jenny,' is awaiting large boiler repairs, the museum welcomes Foxfield Railway to keep the steam spirit alive at Crewe.
Team Lead of the Miniature Railway, Mike Lowcock, said: "We are very excited to welcome our friends from Foxfield Miniature Railway who are very kindly providing their steam locomotives to help promote steam and Railway 200 at Crewe Heritage Centre. We can't wait to see you all there."
Event highlights include:
- Miniature Steam Gala – Sit back relax whilst taking a ride on one of three steam-powered miniature locomotives in action at Crewe Heritage centre's 7¼" gauge miniature railway. Or take a ride on all three
- Community Art Mural – Join artist Francesca Chinnery for a drop-in creative session where families can contribute to a collaborative mural celebrating 200 years of railway history. Draw, paint, and print your railway memories and dreams onto a giant canvas that has been and will continue to evolve throughout the year.
- Design Your Own Railway Worker Hat & Badge – Join artist Francesca Chinnery and choose your railway role and get creative with your own hat and badge design.
- Explore the Museum – Explore the Crewe at War Exhibition celebrating Crewe's contribution to the war effort during WWII, visit historic signal boxes, watch intricate model railways, enjoy refreshments in the café, and shop in the gift shop.

Chair of Crewe Heritage Centre, Gordon Heddon, told Nub News: "This Mini Steam Gala is a wonderful way to celebrate Railway 200 and bringtogether the community through steam, stories, and creativity.
"We are proud to honour Crewe's legacy and look forward to welcoming families and railway enthusiasts for a memorable day out."
