Former world darts champion Ted Hankey appeared in court this morning (April 6) - following an incident that occurred in Crewe last year.

Hankey attended Warrington Magistrates Court to confirm his name, age and address.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorised Cheshire Constabulary to charge former Hankey with the sexual assault of a woman in Crewe on March 30.

The CPS made the decision to charge the 54-year-old after reviewing a file of evidence from Cheshire Constabulary.

The charge relates to an incident that occurred in Crewe on September 10, 2021.

Hankey, of Wendover Grove, Berry Hill, Stoke-on-Trent, was released on bail and appeared before Warrington Magistrates' Court this morning (6 April).

This year, Hankey withdrew from the 2022 World Senior Darts Championships that took place in February.

Cheshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Hankey are now active and that he has a right to a fair trial.

It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
