Man arrested after van crashes into train coming from Crewe

A man has been arrested and British Transport Police are investigating - after a van collided with a train coming from Crewe Railway Station.

The incident on Hall drive crossing, close to Alsager Railway station, happened at 1:13pm on Saturday 11 February.

Cheshire Police officers and rail staff rushed to the scene following reports a van had collided with a train.

The 12:59pm Crewe to Birmingham New Street London Northwestern Railway service was yet to reach Alsager when a van collided with it.

This van attempted to cross a service vehicles crossing but failed to make it in time.

A man, the driver of the van, was arrested at the scene - for dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified.

No one suffered any injuries from the collision.

On Monday (February 13), British Transport Police confirmed the incident to Nub News.

A spokesperson said: "Thankfully no one was injured, however the driver was arrested at the scene for dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and endangering the safety of the railway.

"He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue."

Following the 'obstruction,' London Northwestern railway arranged bus replacement transport between Crewe, Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford stations.

The railway line took approximately two hours to clear with the 15:59pm Crewe to Birmingham New Street service running as usual.
