A major road in Crewe is closed during the day until Thursday 20 August, allowing micro resurfacing works to take place.

Crewe Road, Shavington, from Jack Mills Way Roundabout to Newcastle Road (Goodall's Corner), is shut between 9am and 4pm for one week.

During the dryer months, Cheshire East Highways starts its micro surfacing programme across the borough.

Workers apply a thin layer of bituminous material and aggregate to the surface of the road, taking around two hours to harden.

While the laying process is quick, it is weather-dependent, and rain can cause delays.

It's normal for a newly micro surfaced road to appear slightly uneven at first, and ironworks such as gullies and manhole covers may seem lower than the surrounding surface.

Crewe Road will close again from 1 to 10 September for follow-up ironworks (Photo: CEC Highways).

This is expected and does not affect their function.

In the weeks following the treatment being applied, traffic and weather help the surface settle and smooth out, resulting in a more uniform and durable finish.

Any ironworks identified as too low will be addressed in the follow-up programme, with Crewe Road closing again from 1 to 10 September.

Cheshire East Highways said: "Our crews are carrying out micro surface dressing works.

"This helps Improves skid resistance, seals the road surface against water damage and reduces the need for more extensive repairs. Thanks your patience."

If you have any enquiries relating to the works, contact Cheshire East Highways on 0300 123 5020.
