A discount supermarket chain has targeted to open two more stores in Crewe by 2025 - less than a year after it launched its first ever store in the town.

Lidl opened in Crewe on the newly-constructed Dorothy Flude Retail Park, Lockitt Street, in August 2021.

The retail park was named after Councillor Dorothy Flude, who played a major part in ensuring the delivery of this scheme. Mrs Flude sadly died in 2019.

The German company is on track 'to meet its ambitious target' of 1,100 stores by the end of 2025 - according a new spring 2022 report.

A new brochure has been uploaded on to Lidl's website property section, highlighting which locations are targeted for new Lidl stores.

This has been broken down into areas, with Crewe included in the Nottingham, Derbyshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire East category.

Crewe has two locations on this list, Crewe North and Crewe South. Crewe North would suggest Coppenhall/Leighton areas, with Crewe South suggesting Basford/Shavington areas.

Lidl are targeting new store locations in Crewe North and Crewe South (Lidl).

No specific address has yet been found for the prospective stores but the target is there from Lidl.

Richard Taylor, Lidl GB's Chief Development Officer said: "We know that the majority of British shoppers still love doing their shopping in person and we are as committed as ever to opening new stores and enhancing our existing ones.

"We're opening an average of one new store a week, which is incredible, and our teams have done a phenomenal job of keeping that pace going over the last couple of years.

"Our finder's fees are, therefore, available to absolutely anyone that can identify a viable option for a new store that we're not already aware of.

"We welcome any suitable suggestions that will help up us to meet our ambitious target of 1,100 stores by the end of 2025."
