Investigation underway after emergency services rush to serious fire in Crewe takeaway
An investigation is underway following a serious fire in Crewe - believed to have been started on the shop floor of a takeaway.
The incident happened inside Bria Ami Romanian Takeaway, Nantwich Road, at 8:14am today (September 14).
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service quickly arrived at the scene - with two fire engines from Crewe and one from Nantwich.
Cheshire Constabulary officers arrived to close off Nantwich Road - neighbouring shops were also evacuated.
The fire was started on the shop floor - initially believed to be from a chip pan.
A firefighter at the scene told Nub News: "I believe the fire was a serious one. I didn't go inside myself but a number of our firefighters did."
Firefighters quickly searched the flat above the takeaway to ensure nobody was trapped.
The fire has now been put out, Nantwich Road has reopened and no casualties were reported.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Emergency services are at the scene of a fire on Nantwich Road.
"The fire was on the shop floor of a commercial property and is believed to have been started by a chip pan.
"It had been reported that there were people in the upstairs flat and two crew members rapidly entered the property in breathing apparatus, taking a hose reel jet.
"Further breathing apparatus wearers were deployed to search the building and neighbouring shops were evacuated.
"Flats above the shops were searched to ensure there was nobody trapped and police closed the road.
"The fire is now out, crews remain at the scene and one lane of Nantwich Road has been reopened.
"No casualties have been reported and an investigation into the cause of the fire will be undertaken."
At 10:16am, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service provided an update.
A spokesperson said: "A secondary search of the flat above the affected area has been carried out. Everyone has been accounted for.
"A high pressure fan has been used to ventilate the property and breathing apparatus use has been discontinued.
"Neighbouring properties have been affected by heavy smoke logging."
