Two imminent Crewe Post Office closures are a 'great concern' for Crewe Town Council - with one closing down as soon as this month.
WHSmith, Victoria Shopping Centre, has announced it will be permanently closing down its Crewe town centre store on Saturday 1 April.
Crewe's main Post Office inside will be closing down at the same time - pushed back from Saturday 18 March.
This month, on Thursday (January 12), McColl's convenience store with Post Office, Coleridge Way, will be permanently closing at 5:30pm.
Crewe Town Council has reacted to these upcoming Crewe Post Office closures - concerned with the negative impact on the local community.
On Tuesday (January 4), a representative told Nub News: "It is with great concern that we have received notice of the branch closures of Post Offices in Crewe.
"The removal of these services will affect those in our community of greatest need in terms of vulnerability, accessibility and financial capacity.
"Removing the Coleridge Way facility compounds other recent reductions in Post Office services in Crewe, now including the imminent closure of the Town Centre branch at the WHSmith in the Victoria Centre.
"We have contacted the Post Office to seek clarity on the level of service the town can expect in the future, as well as assurance that no further branch services will be removed from the community of Crewe.
"Crewe Town Council objects in the strongest terms to the reduction in Post Office branches in the town and the impact this has on the most isolated and vulnerable in the community.
"We have sought that the facilities are reinstated in sustainable locations within the town to ensure those in most need can continue to access these services."
Last month (December), Post Office confirmed a new retailer is interested in taking the closing WHSmith post counter on - with talks at an early stage.
A vacancy for the loss of Coleridge Way Post Office will also soon be advertised.
