COUNCIL partners have launched a new website outlining regeneration plans for Crewe.
The site which goes under the banner of "We Are All Crewe" is being produced on behalf of Crewe Town Board, which is drawing up a 10-year Town Investment Plan and overseeing bids for millions of pounds of government regeneration cash.
Crewe Town Council has helped develop the site, which went live this week, after commissioned work by a Nantwich-based graphic design firm. The site uses branding developed for the town council by Hemingway, the design company run by the renowned fashion designer Wayne Hemingway.
As well as an introduction to the board members, who include MP Kieran Mullan, former Crewe Mayor Simon Yates, Chamber of Commerce chief Paul Colman and physiotherapy firm owner Rick Carter, there are details of major projects; the Royal Arcade, Market Hall and the HS2 Hub, all of which are aimed at transforming the town.
Included is a bold declaration of a vision for the future for the town which it says "Crewe will be a revitalised place: a special place shaped by its engineering and railway past and present, established as the urban heart of the area it serves, and confident about its future".
Crewe Town Centre Project Officer Lindsay Lewis said: "The website tells the story of new projects and when we expect them to happen. It will generate interest and reveal what is going on in Crewe.
"We have used the town branding developed by Hemingway and it will be run by our partners and (Cheshire East Council's) communications team."
Crewe Town Board, chaired by Doug Kinsman, has completed a shortlist of projects that are being put forward to bid for a share in the £25 million Towns Fund aimed at reversing the decline in hard-hit towns across England.
The town centre officer revealed at the council's operations and improvement committee last night that unsuccessful projects were being contacted with a view to supporting them with other revenue streams.
"There were £80m worth of proposals for £25m worth of funding so not everything could be supported," she said. "But the board would like to see if they can work with those."
Crewe is also due £750,000 worth of accelerated funding under the Towns Fund which has been earmarked to redevelop Lyceum Square. A contract has been awarded for the work to Gillespies, a firm of landscape architects who can count Piece Hall in Halifax among its portfolio.
Going forward Crewe is also due an injection of £14m plus from the government's Future High Streets Fund.
