Grassroots round-up: Crewe Sunday League hit as second oldest club folds
OFFICIALS of the Crewe Regional Sunday League have had to readjust their schedules after Salvador folded.
The Wistaston-based club, the second oldest in the league, have struggled this season and were bottom of the Premier Division table after losing all their opening five games.
It is a blow to the league which has restarted again after the second lockdown, but faces future fixture congestion, barring even a third national lockdown. Half of yesterday's fixtures were cancelled, mainly because of poor pitches.
League secretary Dave Cooper said: "Salvador have unfortunately folded so the adjustments have been made to the table. All players from the club are eligible to sign for another apart from two who owe monies to Salvador."
League long-servers Faddiley tweeted their disappointment at the news: "Established in 1962 Salvador were the second oldest club in the league behind Willaston White Star. It is another big loss to the league that now only has 21 teams."
Of the two Premier games to go ahead Crewe Athletic won 6-0 at The Raven to go up to third. Blake Robinson netted a hat-trick and the other goals came from Josh Dunn (2) and Luke Gillam.
Second-placed The Lions missed an opportunity to close the gap on the leaders George and Dragon as they went down to a 3-1 loss at Willaston White Star.
Lukasz Synowicz scored a hat-trick for Willaston including two goals in the last eight minutes. Russ Schofield replied for The Lions.
In Division One the top two in the League, Broadhurst and AFC Talbot, didn't play and there were mixed fortunes for those clubs just behind.
Sydney Arms lost 4-3 at home to Nantwich Pirates whose scorers were Joey Hilton (2), Brandon Broadhurst and Gaz Gordon. Ben Reddock scored twice for Sydney Arms with Jason Middleton also on the sheet.
Audlem won by a 4-3 margin against Sandbach Town with goals from Will Cork (2), Paul Bowker and Tom Capewell. Anthony Fidzewicz netted twice for Sandbach with the other goal coming from James Atkinson.
Mid-Cheshire side Cuddington FC had an impressive 8-1 win over Princes Feathers with Louis Greenwood scoring four times. Kevin Douglas hit a hat-trick and Kyle Cattrall was also on the sheet.
CREWE FC are also facing a fixture pile-up as their Cheshire League visit from Congleton Town Reserves was called off with the Cumberland Arena pitch unplayable due to the weekend's heavy rain.
