FIRST GLIMPSE: crafty newcomers to Crewe town centre specialise in personalised clothing and gifts

VICTORIA Street may have taken the brunt of the decline of Crewe town centre retail in recent years.

The demolition work for the Royal Arcade has cleared a large part of one side of the street, while the other has been hit by empty units for some time.

But there appears to be a more positive outlook on the street with independent outlets such as Riminis Cafe and Turkish Grill reopening alongside Vernon's Fish & Chips and Vincent's barbers.

They have been joined by a new personalised clothing and gifts emporium, Crafterama Corner, which threw open its doors at 37 Victoria Street last Saturday.

Ryan Parker spoke to co-owners Jayne and Danni about their first ever shop venture.

How does it feel to be opening on Victoria Street?

We're so excited to be opening and we've got our fingers crossed people will like what we do.

Was there a lot of work to do with the unit in the run up to opening?

It's taken about six weeks to get fully open. The shop has been empty for quite some time so there was quite a lot to do before we could open the doors. We've been offering a collection service from the shop while we were renovating.

You have a large social media following already. Is this your first store?

Yes, it's our first but we've been working from home for about three years, using platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to sell our products.

What is your business about and what are your main selling lines?

We sell personalised gifts and clothing for all ages and all pocket. This could be from a single key ring to clothes for a dance troupe, gym club or even football kits.

We do photo gifts, such as mugs, cushions and air fresheners. We can print onto just about anything so there is such a variety.

What are your future plans?

We plan to extend our range of products and hope to increase the different types of printing we can do in the future. We've just branched out into embroidery and next we're planning on being able to laser engrave onto wooden gifts.

You can check out what Crafterama Corner has to offer on its Facebook page

Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 9:30am until 4:30pm.

Online orders are accepted seven days a week.
