Firefighters had to remove a cooker from a property in Sandbach to be able to fully extinguish a fire in it.

One fire engine from Crewe and another from Middlewich went to the blaze in Elworth Road yesterday (Tuesday) at 4.36 pm.

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The occupiers had evacuated and no injuries were reported.

"The crews checked for hotspots to ensure there was no chance of reignition. The fire is believed to have started due to an electrical fault."
