Firefighter charged with causing death by dangerous driving appears at Crewe court

A man charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a woman died following a crash in Cheshire has appeared in court.
The driver of the fire engine, 57-year-old Kevin Simpkins, of Congleton, appeared at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Friday 23 January and is due to appear at Chester Crown Court on 20 February for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
Police were called to the scene at the junction with Crewe Road and Close Lane, Alsager, at 7.22am on Friday 28 March, 2025, where there had been a crash between a Lexus and a fire engine.
The driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
