Fire crews tackled a large blaze in an alleyway behind houses in Crewe South past 3am, believed to be an act of arson.

On Monday 6 July, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to an incident to the rear of properties on Catherine Street.

At 3.41am, four fire engines, with two from Crewe, one from Nantwich and one from Alsager arrived at the scene.

The Crewe alleyway blaze involved several sheds and outbuildings, along with rubbish including wood and domestic waste.

Firefighters use hose reel jets and extended hose reels to tackle the flames, remaining at the scene for several hours.

No injuries were reported, with the area taped off for hours. Witnesses are urged to contact Cheshire Police.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters attended a large fire to the rear of Catherine Street involving several sheds and outbuildings, as well as piles of rubbish including wood and domestic waste.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and extended hose reels to tackle the blaze.

"Crews remained at the scene for several hours, extinguishing hotspots, turning over waste and dampening down the affected area.

"The cause of the fire is suspected to have been deliberate. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police online or by calling 101.

"Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers. No injuries were reported."
