CREWE firefighters dealt with two vehicle blazes, one an arson attack, in the early hours of Sunday (August 30) morning.

One crew was called out to douse a car fire on Prunus Road just before 4am.

The car was well alight and a hose reel jet was used to extinguish the flames before a thermal imaging camera was used to make checks.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "It is believed that the fire was started deliberately. Anyone with information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 793043."

Earlier, just after midnight, one engine went out to Middlewich Road at Leighton to deal with a fire which had started in a van, although it was found to be out when the crew arrived.

Firefighters monitored the van with a thermal imaging camera before disconnecting its battery to make the van safe.
