By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

RESIDENTS were evacuated from homes in Meredith Street this morning (Thursday) after a house fire.

Firefighters tackled the blaze in the property where a bedroom was well alight.

Two officers earing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames with a hose reel jet.

There were no reports of anyone suffering injuries or the effects of smoke inhalation.

Three fire engines attended, two from Crewe and one from Nantwich.

Crews have used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots and they also isolated the gas and electricity supply.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The fire resulted in heavy smoke logging and a number of neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precautionary measure."
