An emerging Crewe Alex FC talent has signed a long-term first professional contract at the club, following an impressive first-team debut.

Calum Agius penned the Crewe contract on Thursday 14 September, signing until 2026 with an option of a further two years.

The 18-year-old midfielder who has been at the club since the age of seven, made his debut in a 1-0 away defeat to Port Vale in the EFL Trophy on September 5.

Agius came on for Newcastle loanee, Joe White, in the 61st minute against The Valiants, immediately catching the eye of Crewe management and fans.

The Wales Under-19 international can play anywhere across midfield, as well as forward positions.

Agius is now targeting more first-team action, spurred on the new long-term contract.

Manager, Lee Bell, told Crewe Alexandra's website: "I'm delighted for Calum. I first coached him as an Under-11 and he is a player who has always stood out.

"He is a Crewe player through and through in terms of how he handles the ball.

"He is not fazed by anything, he has a good work ethic and this is a good reward for him.

"The chairman has backed this decision and it is the right thing to do. We want our best young players to be at the club for as long as possible.

"I always tell them that their aim is not to get into our first team and then move on.
