Emergency services rush to Crewe youths causing 'criminal damage' at abandoned building

Emergency services rushed to reports of 'criminal damage' from youths at abandoned building in Crewe - less than a month since the last incident there.

Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire at a disused building, off Electricity Street, on Thursday 9 March.

A caller reported five youths, four males and a female were hanging around the abandoned building - often targeted with deliberate fires.

One fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene around 6pm and controlled the blaze using a water backpack.

The youths had left the scene when Cheshire Police officers arrived. No one was hurt in the incident.

On Friday (March 10), Cheshire Police confirmed the incident to Nub News.

A spokesperson said: "At around 5.50pm on Thursday 9 March, officers received reports of criminal damage near Electricity Street, Crewe. 

One fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene around 6pm and controlled the blaze using a water backpack (Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service).

"A call reported that five youths, four males and a female, were hanging around an abandoned building before the fire began inside. 

"One male was described as wearing a full grey tracksuit. 

"Just before 6pm, fire crews arrived on the scene and controlled the fire. 

"A search was made for the youths the caller suspected had started the fire, but there was no sign of them. 

The last arson attack at the abandoned building happened on Saturday 11 February (Crewe POV).

"There was no confirmation of the fire causing anyone any physical harm."
