Edleston Road due to reopen tomorrow after extended roadworks spill over Bank Holiday

By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

EDLESTON Road was still in the grip of roadworks today after resurfacing work extended beyond the Bank Holiday weekend.

Contractors working for Cheshire East Council have spent today line painting the main thoroughfare after work scheduled for a finish on Thursday or Friday last week spilled over.

The road has been closed off for traffic since Monday, August 17 with diversions in force taking traffic around Mill Street.

It reopened mid-afternoon, but will be closed again tonight as engineers will be back to complete loop cutting work through the night. It is understood the road will reopen fully tomorrow.

While the work has exacerbated congestion along with a series of backlogged road schemes that are being completed in the town centre, the smooth finish to one of Crewe's busiest roads should please motorists and road users.

Meanwhile, long-term maintenance work on Westminster Street is due to stretch until the end of the year, while Gresty Road is also affected by roadworks.
