A COLLEGE wants to continue to shine the spotlight on the nations' key workers.

Workers in Protective Services have played pivotal roles over the past 12 months to ensure communities are able to stay safe.

Crewe-based Cheshire College tutors say their vital work has inspired young people to follow in their footsteps and they want to help them achieve their chances of gaining rewarding roles within the sector with their Protective Services programmes.

As the region's largest provider of post-16 education, Cheshire College offers a range of courses designed specifically to equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to enter many Protective Services' careers, such as the army, navy, police, fire and prison and probation services.

Highly-qualified tutors have vast experience within the different industries and the college's Protective Service courses support learners in their next steps, developing transferable skills and providing them with the confidence to attain their goals.

Emilie Knowles, Public Services BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 learner, said: "Before I started my courses, I couldn't find my place in this world - I wasn't really doing much with my life.

" I tried a few courses in other places but I just didn't find any of them interesting. I spoke with a staff member at the college and told them what my interests were and they helped point me in the right direct on the Level 2 and 3 Public Services courses.

"I also managed to get my GCSE Maths and English while studying at the college which has secured me a place at Glyndwr University studying Professional Policing."

Gareth Edwards, Assistant Director of Protective Services, said: "It's been fantastic to see those in the Protective Services really inspiring our next generation of key workers and I'm delighted that here at Cheshire College, we're able to support learners to transition into such fulfilling careers with our programmes.

"Not only do our learners develop their understanding of the various services during their studies with us, we also prepare them for life in their respective services too with training from organisations such as the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and the Ministry of Defence."

Cheshire College offers a variety of full-time courses across its Crewe and Ellesmere Port Campuses including Level 2, Level 3 and Higher National Certificate (HNC) learning programmes which have all seen previous alumni go on to secure roles within the armed forces, police service, fire and rescue service, and NHS ambulance service.
