Cheshire East Council has placed the former Flag Lane Baths site in Crewe on the market, offering a significant redevelopment opportunity for either leasehold or freehold disposal.

The building, originally opened in 1937 and noted for its Art Deco design, has been left derelict since 2016 when Crewe Lifestyle Centre launched on Forge Street.

It is now being marketed by the council for a range of potential new uses, subject to planning approval and deliverability.

The substantial complex provides approximately 16,172 sq ft on the ground floor, 7,049 sq ft on the lower ground floor, and 1,579 sq ft on the first floor or mezzanine, offering a large footprint suitable for redevelopment schemes.

The front facade is protected as a locally listed structure, with any redevelopment expected to take this into account.

Expressions of interest for Flag Lane Baths should be forwarded by Friday 19 June to [email protected] (Photo: CEC).

Cheshire East is inviting expressions of interest from developers and investors who can demonstrate viable proposals and secure funding.

The council also wants them to show how the scheme would contribute to the economic, social or environmental regeneration of Crewe and the wider area.

Cheshire East has confirmed it will consider both freehold and long leasehold offers depending on the strength of proposals submitted.

Interested parties are required to set out their intended use, financial offer, delivery timescales and development plans.

In autumn 2025, Cheshire County Sports Club, proposed the site to be redeveloped into a padel and swimming facility, including a gym, spin studio, dance studio, meeting room, community café and a soft play area for children.

Managing Director, Andrew Chandler, told Nub News: 'The Flag Lane site has been advertised by the council without telling us.

"In addition. the stipulates they have added mean it is impossible for any community group or non-profit business to be able to adhere to them which means demolition and housing.

"This is poor even for Cheshire East Council as its housing and demolition by stealth."

Expressions of interest should be forwarded by Friday 19 June to [email protected]. Viewings are by appointment only.
