A POLISH Evening is the latest event organised by Crewe Market Hall to celebrate the cultural diversity of the town.
The Hall is hosting a gala of music, food and entertainment on a Polish theme tomorrow (Saturday) from 5pm and the venue's management hope it will strike a chord with the town's Eastern European community.
There will be plenty for families to do with a face painting session and Polish treasure hunt taking place and a round of quizzes, including 'Who wants to be a millionaire?', starting at 7.30pm.
Local DJ Patryk Gad, who goes under the name of DJ Mandriv, will be providing an upbeat tempo from his mixing desk later in the evening.
Market Hall Manager Gary Johnson explained: "We contacted the Polish Society of Crewe on Facebook and Cheshire East councillor and Borough Mayor Cllr Sara Pochin and Crewe Town Mayor Cllr Tom Dunlop have also done a lot of work pulling it together.
"We've said so many times that the Market Hall is the hub of the community and after the success of our Diwali (Indian Festival of Light) celebration we wanted to extend our reach to other cultures in the Crewe community."
Crewe has been twinned with Dzieroniw, a town in south-western Poland, since 1991.
But its connection with Poland are much closer to home. There has been an established Polish community since the Second World War and there was a Polish Social Club in West Street.
While the economic migration of the mid-noughties after Poland joined the EU saw thousands of Polish workers and their families settle in the town.
Tomorrow evening's event could be a fitting night for unity and togetherness between Crewe's communities with the eyes of the world currently on Eastern Europe.
"Crewe has always had a strong Polish influence since World War II. It's a thriving community and we want to highlight that diversity is part of the town," added Gary.
Tomorrow night's cultural evening will begin with an opening address from the Town Mayor and runs until 11pm.
It is free admission and everyone is welcome with the Market Hall's management stressing: A great evening is guaranteed!/Gwarancja super imprezy!
- The Polish Evening has enjoyed sponsorship too from The Corner Studio, Local Burger, The Crewe Bakeshop, Octagon, Dwakoty Polski Sklep and Open Mind Cafe.
