PETROL pumps at one of Crewe's main supermarket stores were back in use today (Wednesday).

Morrisons on Dunwoody Way was out of fuel yesterday as the delivery crisis continues to affect the country. But motorists were able to refuel at most of its forecourt pumps this afternoon.

Around half of Crewe's garages were out of fuel on Tuesday, including the BP garage on Crewe Road.

The forecourt there has remained dry while staff await a tanker delivery.

In Tesco Extra in Vernon Way there is no shortage of fuel, but long waits are in store with cars cramming the forecourt.

Nationally, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng says there are "signs the situation has begun to improve".

The government's reserve tanker fleet is on road this afternoon to boost fuel deliveries with civilians driving trucks from depots in Cambridgeshire and West Yorkshire, while the military will also be commandeered to run deliveries in the coming days.
