Crewe Post Office will reopen inside a former sports shop set to be converted into a new convenience store this April, one year since it closed down.

The central area of Crewe has been without a Post Office since its facility closed down inside WHSmith, Victoria Shopping Centre, on Thursday 30 March.

This closure was always meant to be temporary, with Post Office looking at securing a new operator in the town centre since.

A deal was finally agreed for a new Crewe Town postmaster this September.

In November, Nub News was told by a number of sources its new location will be inside the former Liberty Sports & Leisure shop, 3 Victoria Centre.

On Thursday 7 March, this location was confirmed, along with an opening date.

A Post Office spokesperson told Nub News: "We are delighted to be restoring a Post Office to the centre of Crewe from Tuesday 9 April.

"The new branch will be located at Oso Go Store, Unit 3, Victoria Centre, where it will be known as Crewe Post Office.

"We want to thank local residents and businesses for their patience whilst we have sought to open a replacement branch.

"We know that having a Post Office on the high street drives footfall and spend with other local retailers and we grateful to our new Postmaster for opening this brand-new branch."

Post Office is giving local residents an opportunity to give feedback on the new branch, which will close on Thursday 4 April (Ryan Parker).

The former Liberty Sports & Leisure unit has been vacant for well over a decade.

Crewe councillor, Clair Chapman, told Nub News: "This is great news for Crewe residents like me, who consider a town centre Post Office a vital service and community hub.

"It has been sorely missed, and of course it'll bring more of us back into the town centre on a regular basis."
