CREWE Town Council is set to appoint only its third ever co-opted councillor.

The vacancy has arisen in the council's Crewe West ward by the resignation of councillor Julian Profitt.

An election could have been called, but 10 electors would have needed to come forward to request one within 14 days up to January 18.

Cheshire East Council has informed the town council that didn't happen and now the authority will co-opt a member at a meeting on March 29 (7pm).

It is the third casual vacancy on the town council in recent months.

Dawn Clark and Martin Edwards were co-opted last November to represent the Crewe Central and Crewe East wards respectively.

If you are interested in being a councillor you can request the information and application pack by emailing [email protected] or calling in at the town council offices at 1 Chantry Court in Forge Street (CW1 2DL).

You will need to register your interest for the voluntary role by 5pm on March 11 and then briefly outline your suitability and motivation to be a Crewe Town councillor at the co-option meeting.
