COUNCILLOR Tom Dunlop is to be the new Mayor of Crewe.

At a virtual meeting of Crewe Town Council last night, Cllr Dunlop was nominated and voted in by fellow councillors to take over the ceremonial robes for 2021/22.

Veteran councillor Nan Walton was voted in as deputy mayor.

Current town mayor Benn Minshall will hand over duties to Cllr Dunlop at the end of the civic year in May after two years holding the reins.

Cllr Minshall is serving as mayor for a second year due to Covid-19 and the restrictions that placed on the council's engagement and activities.

Cllr Dunlop's appointment will be formalised and his civic year will start at the annual meeting of council on May 18.
