RESIDENTS in Crewe are being given a chance to submit ideas for a Town Investment Plan which could see £25 million spent on town regeneration.

The recently-former Crewe Town Board is inviting proposals so that people can contribute to its application to the government's Towns Fund, but they will need to move quickly as a deadline of Tuesday, November 3 has been set.

The board has been assembled from leading figures from the civic and business community to develop the plan after Crewe was chosen among 101 towns and cities in England to put forward a bid. If successful, Crewe will be able to deliver a variety of capital projects to boost the town's long-term regeneration.

To help developing a winning bid the board has been gathering project ideas and a final list will be drawn up and fed into a 10-year Town Investment Plan, ready for the final submission to the government in January next year.

The board says "a complimentary mix of projects" which are in line with six key themes in the Towns Fund prospectus are needed.

They are:

  • Regeneration, planning and land-use;
  • Arts, culture and heritage;
  • Local transport;
  • Digital connectivity;
  • Skills infrastructure;
  • Enterprise infrastructure.

A board spokesman said: "Towns Fund investment is also expected to contribute to Crewe's economic recovery from the Covid-19 crisis and to deliver clean growth as we tackle climate change and deliver the outcomes set out in the Towns Fund Intervention Framework."

All the projects must be delivered between 2021/22 to 2025/26 and have to be located within the Towns Fund area boundary.

Projects will also be measured for delivering outputs and outcomes.

New project proposals can be submitted using this form which can be downloaded here.

They will need to be returned by the 5pm deadline on November 3 Jay Gamble at [email protected]
