LEISURE officers have been delivering lockdown cycling sessions for disabled youngsters at the Cumberland Arena.

The first Inclusive Cycling session was held last month under strict Covid-secure guidelines.

Everybody Sport and Recreation asked its members for their views on the free sessions and the response was so positive that they are a regular fixture on Saturdays now.

The cycling sessions are aimed at young people aged 5 to 18 with a disability or impairment and cover a range of abilities. Bikes are adapted and include different size trikes, a hand cycle and a wheelchair bike.

For beginners Everybody Sport and Recreation have staff to support learning to ride and for more experienced riders they can take off around the arena's track/circuit.

Disability & Inclusion Lead at Everybody Sport and Recreation Andy Molyneux said: "It is so important to remain active and it's been great to be out at the sessions again, interacting with the young people and seeing them having some fun again.

"The sessions have small numbers with a maximum of four children per session and adapted to meet the latest government guidelines to ensure they are Covid safe and secure."

The sessions run on Saturdays at the Cumberland Arena in Crewe with two time slots of 10am and 11.20am. They are also being run on Sundays at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.

Places for these sessions need to be booked in advance, for more information, please contact [email protected] or call 07506 317055
