A personalised clothing and gift shop in Crewe has deemed the latest Royal Arcade announcement as the "last straw," deciding to depart from the town centre.

The independent retailer first opened in 2021, after trading from home for around three years online.

Crafterama Corner has deemed Cheshire East Council's Royal Arcade update as the 'last straw' for the business, deciding to depart Crewe town centre (Nub News).

Crafterama Corner decided it was time to close for good when Cheshire East Council confirmed phase two of Crewe's Royal Arcade scheme was currently unviable.

Four options have been outlined for the site, including 'meanwhile uses' such as a park.

One of the options is set to be confirmed at a council economy and growth committee meeting on Tuesday 14 November.

A Crafterama Corner social media statement read: "We have tried to think of how we can continue with our little shop a dream we've held onto for just about as long as we can.

"But, so many things have been against us this year (please don't think we're looking for sympathy, it just is what it is).

"Finally the last straw is this weeks news that, to be fair, we've been expecting for some time, Crewe 'Town Centre' will basically be no more.

"A huge multi-storey providing parking for some tree covered park benches (if only we already had a lovely big park somewhere in Crewe?

"That, along with the closure of so many other town centre shops leaves us feeling we have really been left with no option at all.

"We will no longer be trading as Crafterama Corner, or producing any further personalised gifts from either the shop or home."

Crafterama Corner sold personalised gifts and clothing items for all ages.

Items ranged from a single key ring, mug, or cushion, to clothes for a dance troupe, gym club or even football kits.

Joint-owners and married partners, Jayne and Danielle, have now decided to move on and launch new online business Affy_swag.

Crafterama Corner added: "We have a huge following, including a lot of people who do a lot of what we do!

"If you are interested in buying any of our equipment or blank products please drop either of us a message and we will let you know what we have.

"Alternatively check out Affy_swag, our new page where we sell anything from a pair of slippers to a stand up paddle board and anything in between.

"We would like to say a massive thank you to each and every one of our customers (many of whom have become friends) who have kept us busy over the last seven years.
