Middlewich Road was closed last night.

HIGHWAYS engineers transported a tree from a busy road after it collapsed in yesterday's storms.

The large tree fell across Middlewich Road (A530) near to its junction with Wistaston Green Road and the Rising Sun Inn yesterday afternoon.

The carriageway was almost entirely blocked by the trunk and branches.

A road block was put in place and highways staff moved the tree onto the verge.

Crewe was battered by rain and high winds through from the early hours of Sunday (October 31).

Forecasters are now warning of a wet and windy start to November.

This morning wind gusts could reach 32mph, and while gradually easing later there will be heavy rain throughout the day.

Cheshire East Highways warned motorists on social media: "Please drive to the conditions and allow extra time to brake.

"If you encounter any flooding on our roads or weather-related issues, please let us know by calling 0300 123 5020."
