Crewe microbrewery launches appeal to replace marquee blown down in Storm Arwen
A MICROBREWERY hit by winter storm damage has launched an appeal to replace a popular outdoor drinking area.
Craft ale specialists Tom's Tap and Brewhouse erected a marquee-style gazebo for its regulars outside its bar and brewing site in Thomas Street in Crewe.
But it fell victim to last November's Storm Arwen which swept across the country and in Crewe left a trail of damage.
The marquee was anchored by six-inch bolts, but such was the ferocity of the storm its metal poles were damaged beyond repair.
A replacement is not covered by the business insurance, so co-owner Sean Ayling started an appeal on the gofundme website to raise funds to replace the facility in readiness for the warmer weather.
So far £2,405 has been raised of a £1,277 target.
Sean said: "We bought our 'Marqueebo' in between lockdowns to keep our customers dry when only outside drinking was allowed and it later served as a further covered place when all our inside tables were booked.
"We had hoped to be able to fund its replacement but, sadly, the winter months don't always generate a profit with which to make such a purchase.
"We've suffered a significant increase in our electricity bill as well as increases in dispense gas and, most recently, malt, the base ingredient of every beer we make.
"And we also want to buy a heavier duty piece of kit so it will last longer, which is why we're asking for more than £1,000. We know how much our customers like sitting in it, from the regulars to the occasional visitors to the football teams that often come in for a pint after their game."
