Crewe Market Hall has celebrated its one-year anniversary back in Crewe town centre - following a £3 million refurbishment.

The revamped attraction officially opened on Wednesday 19 May 2021. An anniversary celebration event was held at the market hall yesterday (May 19).

Crewe Market Hall has seen a number of independent eateries and retailers open, close and expand during this one-year period.

Many outlets have established themselves as a popular destination for local residents - five days a week.

Traders at Crewe Market Hall told Nub News what the market meant to them - offering their opinions at anniversary event.

Owner of Swirly Pearls, Mr Nathan Tice said: "One-year on Crewe Market Hall is a fantastic place for families to come and chill and a great community hub where local people can go, it's been quite a journey.

"I found out about the market through a friend who was going to start a stall here and I came to look at it with him. He didn't end up getting a stall and I did.

"On that same visit with my friend, a girl that was going to do an ice cream stall within the market decided she didn't want to be a part of it. I then said that I would go ahead with that.

"There were no masterplans or anything. I was just there at the right place, right time."

Mr Tice was born in Cleveland, Ohio, US. He moved to the UK in 2005 and has lived in Crewe for 14 years.

The business owner added: "People love that the market is a great place to come to during the day. They love the fact that there are always activities going on. I don't have anything bad at all to say really."

Not all businesses have been inside Crewe Market Hall for the entire 12 months. They have still made a big impact.

Owner of Olive's Cypriot Street Food, Mr Erdem Volkan told Nub News: "We have been here nine months, offering our traditional food of gyros and halloumi.

"We have been doing really good here and are really happy to be a part of the market family.

"It was a good opportunity for us when we heard about availability within the market. It has gone well.

"In Crewe there isn't much to do after 6pm. I like to walk around the town centre, Queens Park and enjoy the entertainment that the market offers here."

One Crewe Market Hall trader believed the venue was best suited for food and drink as well as live entertainment.

Owner of Mia's Baby Boutique, Mrs Stacey Hulse said: "I think the market hall is a great community events and entertainment venue - not as ideal for retail.

Mia's Baby Boutique is one of four retailers inside Crewe Market Hall (Ryan Parker).

"Manager Gary Johnson does his best to support all businesses in here. It's a fantastic food and entertainment venue that's for sure."

Crewe Market Hall is open Wednesday to Sunday. The venue stays open until a later time of 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Live entertainment is always held on Thursdays with the weekly quiz. There is always a music act on Fridays and Saturdays

Sundays vary and sometimes offer live music. Other times, Crewe Market Hall offers pop-up markets, young traders markets and vinyl/record markets.

General Manager of The Crewe Dog and The Doghouse Craft Beer & Record Shop, Mr Louis Delaney said: "Our first year has exceeded what we could have ever dreamed of.

"Crewe has embraced us as part of the community and we couldn't be more grateful for that."

The Doghouse Craft Beer & Record Shop opened in Crewe Market Hall this April (Ryan Parker).

In response to Stacey Hulse, Mia's Baby Boutique, Mr Delaney added: "In our opinion, if you've got a product people want, it works.

"The Doghouse retail unit has again exceeded our expectations.

"We have been blown away by the support we've received in our first month of opening."
