Crewe man arrested for 'causing a public nuisance' following town centre stand-off
A Crewe man has been arrested for "causing a public nuisance" in the town centre - after standing on the roof of a premises for almost seven hours.
The incident on the roof of NatWest, The Square, happened at around 4:00pm on Wednesday 21 June - lasting until 10:30pm.
Following concerns for the safety of a man, Cheshire Police officers quickly arrived at the scene - closing off Market Street and Chester Street as a "precaution."
Officers engaged with the man for almost seven hours.
At 10:30pm, the 27-year-old was finally negotiated down and arrested for causing a "public nuisance."
The man currently remains in police custody.
On Thursday 22 June, Cheshire Police confirmed the incident to Nub News.
A spokesperson said: "At around 4pm on Wednesday 22 June, police were called following concerns for the safety of a man on the roof of a premises on in Crewe.
"Officers attended the scene and engaged with the individual over several hours.
"Road closures were put in place along Market Street and Chester Street as a precaution.
"At 10.30pm the man was negotiated down from the roof and arrested for causing a public nuisance.
"The 27-year-old from Crewe remains in custody at this time."
