A Crewe man has been making waves after donning his trunks to reach an impressive fundraising target.

Steve Pearson Adams, 65, who is funeral service crew member at Co-op Funeralcare Crewe, braved icy open water dips at local meres this winter in support of a cause close to his heart.

He took on the challenge after losing a close friend, known for his caving hobby, to prostate cancer.

Determined to do something positive in his memory, Steve decided to dive headfirst into fundraising, by committing to 12 cold open-water swims in aid of Prostate Cancer Research.

Steve said: "I've always enjoyed a challenge and testing myself, and this one definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone.

"Once you're in, there's no turning back, it's uncomfortable, but it also gives you a real sense of achievement.

"Knowing it was for such an important cause made every cold dip worth it."

Despite the freezing conditions, Steve kept his cool and completed the challenge, supported by friends, family, colleagues and fellow cavers who followed his progress.

His efforts have helped raise valuable funds of £968 for Prostate Cancer Research, supporting work to improve diagnosis, treatment and survival rates.

Steve said: "One of the things I value most about working for Co-op Funeralcare is its strong community-first ethos, so it's meant a great deal to have that encouragement behind me, as well as support from friends, family, fellow cavers and the wider community.

"The backing I've received has certainly helped through the coldest swims."

"If this challenge helps start conversations about prostate cancer or encourages someone to get checked, then it's been worth it."
