Crewe gymnastics club rake in awards at British TeamGym qualifiers
A community based Crewe gymnastics club entered the northern qualifiers for the British TeamGym finals in Newcastle upon Tyne last week.
The LS Gymnastics Crewe Academy, located at the Apollo Buckingham Health Sciences Campus on Crewe Road, were successful and came away with three teams gold, two team silver and one team bronze.
"We were proud to enter five teams and a total of 67 gymnasts into the competition," says Performance Manager, Candy Lakin.
The established family club has over 34 years of experience behind it, specialising in Trampolining, TeamGym, Pre-school gymnastics and British level men's and women's gymnastics.
The club has been open for more than five years, starting out in November 2016.
Mrs Lakin told Nub News: "The club is an amazing community based club and we are so proud of our 700 members.
"Apollo Buckingham Health and Science campus has acknowledged the importance of the club and have made an amazing base for LSGCA."
The mum-of-six said: "It's a family club through and through."
Candy works alongside her eldest daughter Ellie, who is the head coach. Her husband Mr Lakin, is the accountant and receptionist for LS Gymnastics.
All of Lakin's children work for the club, including her son Hugo who has Down's syndrome. He is the drive to make the club completely accessible for all.
Mrs Lakin stated: "The ethos of the club is for everyone to access gymnastics at all levels. The integration of children with all abilities is so important and creates a mental and physical supportive environment for children.
"The club is run by a team of 42 coaches under the guidance of the Lakin family. We have gymnasts from age 2 to 75 years.
"We are so proud of all our coaches, parents and gymnasts that make LSGCA what it is today."
Last week, Crewe and Nantwich MP Dr Kieran Mullan came to visit the club, taking time to inspire the gymnasts and encourage them to continue reaching their goals in the sport.
Mrs Lakin added: "He was amazed at all the gymnasts who arrived at the club in the evening, meeting the integrated teams, young boys development squads and our SEN session.
"We welcome him at anytime to the club to finish his salto training and to land on his feet."
The LS Gymnastics club states on its Facebook page: "We welcome all new members and hope you enjoy our club run by the Lakin's and an amazing team we class as an extended family, nurturing a happy and caring environment."
