Crewe business owner wins award at Crufts international dog show 2022
Dog groomer Lisa Mault is celebrating winning an award at Crufts - In her 40th year visiting the show.
"This is a win I have dreamt of for years, hard work, patience and perseverance finally paid off," says business owner of Wuffcuts, Lisa Mault.
Crufts is an international dog show and was held at the NEC Birmingham between 10-13 March.
Organised by the largest dog health organisation in the UK, The Kennel Club, the show celebrates every aspect of the role that dogs play in pet owners lives.
Over 16,000 dogs competed for just seven places in the show's final, representing each of the individual groups.
Lisa told Nub News: "There's a lot of pressure showing a dog in the toy group at Crufts championship level. It takes a huge amount of preparation and team effort to get a dog into the ring looking immaculate.
"We are preservation breeders of Bichon Frise, we like to show off what we are currently breeding to fellow breeders nationally and internationally."
Lisa's dog, 'Limartine Mr Blue', is a male Bichon Frise and is just three-years-old.
The Bichon Frise is a playful yet gentle small breed dog of the Bichon type. They are generally considered to be very good with children.
Limartine Mr Blue won the Best of Breed award and then went on to come fourth in the toy group behind Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (third), Pomeranian (second) and winner, Yorkshire Terrier.
Lisa said: "The Bichon Frise is a heavily coated breed of dog which is why I became a dog groomer over 30 years ago, specialising in the wool coated type breeds and Bichons in particular.
"I have a very good friend who helps with preparation of the clients dogs which is a good thing as she also shows Bichons and was actually awarded best female and best opposite sex to my male.
"We aim to produce a high standard of service for people who want their dogs to look like their particular breed."
This was the 132nd year of the show that began in 1891, created by British showman Charles Cruft.
This year's Best in the Show was awarded to Flat Coated Retriever, Baxer, who beat the other six finalists.
Speaking about her pride in Crewe, Lisa added: "This town has had a few successful breeder/exhibitors over the years and for me to join them and keep Crewe as a place for quality, healthy pedigree dogs is a privilege.
"Having lived in Crewe all my life, with both parents and a set of grandparents having local businesses over the years, its location is perfect for all the national traveling we do to attend shows."
Viewers can still watch all the highlights from the event on All 4.
