A building site worker has been hit with a driving ban and a hefty court bill - after speeding off from police on his way home.

Alex Thorpe, 31, was seen driving his vehicle on the way back from Crewe in Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent. on three tyres and a rim on April 6 this year.

The fork lift truck driver of Henderson Grove, Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, slowed down after being asked to pull over by Staffordshire Police.

Alex Thorpe, of Henderson Grove, Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, committed the offences on April 6 (Nub News).

Thorpe then decided to speed off when officers got out of their vehicle.

The Crewe worker then went on to drive 50mph to 60mph in 30mph zones, overtaking drivers, and driving through red lights. 

Following a police pursuit, Thorpe was later stopped and still tried to get away by walking off.

The Meir man was searched, with cannabis being found in his vehicle.

Thorpe gave a positive roadside breath test and was taken to custody where he was breathalysed and found to be more than twice the legal limit for alcohol.

The 31-year-old later pleaded guilty to drink-driving; possession of a class B drug; driving without due care and attention; and failing to stop when required.

The man has been able to keep in job in Crewe but told North Staffordshire Justice Centre getting to the Cheshire town will now be 'impossible.'
